Intel i860-based
Bus Boards
FT-200-VME Processor Board for VME Bus
Based on Intel's i860 processors, the FT-200 processor boards are
ideal for accelerating digital signal processing (DSP), graphics,
and imaging processing applications.
The Intel i860 microprocessor delivers supercomputer performance
in a single VLSI component. The 64-bit design of the i860 balances
integer, floating point, and graphic performance, and its architecture
makes it suitable for many applications including engineering workstations,
scientific computing, 3-D graphics workstations, and multi-user
systems.
FT-200-VME Features
Features common to all Alacron i860-based boards include:
- Single or dual i860s
- Up to 200 MFLOPS / 100 MIPS
- Up to 272 MB addressable memory
- FastTrack connection to I/O and processor daughter-cards
- Real-time multiprocessing OS
- MS-DOS, Windows, Unix interfaces
- Available for: PCI and VME computers
The FT-200s are single or dual 50 MHz i860 XP-based board-level
subsystems, available for PCI and VME bus computers. The FT-200
implements a fully symmetric multiprocessing model, sharing addressable
memory equally between i860s. The FT-200 has a 200 MB/sec system
bus, and with two processors operates at 200 MFLOPS / 100 MIPS.
The FT-200 can execute a 1K complex FFT in under 0.320 mSec using
both i860's, and in 560 mSec using a single processor. The FT-200's
addressable memory is expandable from 8 MB to 272 MB.
The FT-200 subsystem provides two FastTrack expansion connectors.
These connectors implement Alacron's stackable daughter-card protocol,
and together can support a combination of up to six I/O, memory
expansion and processor daughter-cards.
Alacron provides a complete family of high-performance FastTrack
daughter-cards to allow sufficient speed and buffering for intensive
I/O and display, and to support a wide range of third-party solutions.
FastTrack interfaces include:
- High Performance Digital (Camera) Interface
- Analog Framegrabber
- High Performance Digital I/O Interface
- DT-Connect Interface
- SCSI Interface
- VISIONbus Interface
- Video Display Adapter
- VSB Interface
The FT-200 accommodates one or two i860s in a shared-master architecture.
Each FT-200 board features up to 272 MB of local DRAM, an on-board
Real-time clock, programmable LED, interrupt controller, bus arbiter,
and two FastTrack connectors.
| Control Registers |
Each i860 Processor
has its own set of control registers within the FT-200 shared
memory address space. These registers control the real-time
clock, i860 interrupts, processor-bus arbitration and interprocessor
communication. |
| Real-time Clock
(RTC) |
The RTC can be
used to measure processing times, to generate periodic interrupts
to the i860, or to function as a time-of-day clock on the FT-200. |
| Interrupt Control
(IC) |
IC registers control
interrupts to and from each i860 processors. Each i860 may be
interrupted from 5 sources: the other i860, either expansion
connector, the RTC, or the host computer. Each i860 can interrupt
the host bus as well as the other i860 processor. |
| System Bus Arbitration |
The FT-200's i860
processors share the system bus with other RAM masters in the
following priority: DRAM Refresh, FastTrack Connector #1, i860
Processors. |
| Dual Processor
Arbitration |
Dual i860 processor
arbitration is supported using LOCK and KEEP functions, allowing
either processor to assert and retain control of the bus for
as long as required. This is especially useful for long I/O
transfers. |
| Cache Coherency |
The integrity of
data simultaneously cached by both processors is enforced by
cache write-through and bus snooping. |
| Memory |
The FT-200 can
be configured with either 8 or 16 MB of DRAM on the main board.
Two DRAM expansion boards may be added with 8, 16, 24, 32, 64
and 128 MB each, providing a maximum memory configuration of
272 MB. FT-200 memory achieves a peak access rate of 200 MB/sec
for near (on page) accesses and 66.66 MB/sec for far (off-page)
accesses. FT-200 for the PCI bus computer can be configured
from 2 to 256 MB. |
