FT-SCSI SCSI Bus Interface Module

The FT-SCSI is a member of Alacron's family of high performance FastTrack daughter-cards. The FT-SCSI allows direct connection to SCSI devices and supports DMA access to memory allowing concurrent processing and SCSI transfer. The FT-SCSI also supports SCSI II fast narrow transfers.

FT-SCSI Features

• Uses the NCR 53C700 SCSI controller with an integrated 2 MIPS RISC SCSI scripts processor that operates without processor intervention
• High speed SCSI bus transfers (9.375 MB/sec synchronous, 5 MB/sec asynchronous)
• Full 32-bit DMA bus master
• Supports variable block size scatter/gather data transfers
• Supports long word data bursts of variable length
• Eliminates SCSI I/O initiation latency. The FT-SCSI requires only 500 nsec to initiate data transfer, compared to 2 – 8 msec typical of other SCSI controllers
• Performs complex bus sequences, including restoring data pointers, without interrupts
• Unique interrupt status reporting reduces interrupt service routine overhead
• Three SCSI device interface protocols are provided:
  • SCSI Command Descriptor Block
  • Block I/O with SCSI direct access devices
  • Byte I/O with SCSI disks
